Showcase Black Leaders - Identify Barriers - Provide Resources - Share Young Voices

Leaders.

We want to show you inspiring Black Leaders of today and share with you their experiences. How they got to where they are, what challenges they face and what advice they would give to someone else aspiring to be a leader. What better way to learn than from the people who have the lived experience and knowledge.

Data.

We don’t want to tiptoe round the issues. It is important to be transparent and bring you the facts and data which identify barriers which prevent people of colour from progressing as far. Once we identify these inequalities we can start articulating what changes need to be made.

Statistics on Black Leadership

This research examines the backgrounds of 6,172 individuals in total and covers the leadership of the UK’s largest quoted companies, the FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange) 100 as of December 2020.

The early findings from the Green Park Business Leaders Index 2021 reveal:

  • The number of black leaders has stalled and then dropped to zero. Only 10 of 297 (3.4%) leaders in the Top 3 roles have ethnic minority backgrounds.

*Top 3 (Chair, CEO and CFO)

  • The percentage of black Executive Directors and Non-Executive Directors (1.1%) has also fallen since Green Park’s first report in 2014 (1.3%).

*Top 20 (Board, and Executive Committee, including Top 3)

  • Numbers in the black leadership pipeline decreasing over the past year from 1.4% to 0.9%.

*Pipeline 40 (Senior leaders who report into the Top 20).

Artists.

Take a look at what other young black artists are making…

An important goal for us is to provide beneficial resources for young black people which will help to equip them with the knowledge and skills to progress in their career.

The Advocacy Academy

What? The Advocacy Academy is a transformational Social Justice Youth Organising Movement for young people from South London who are passionate about creating a more fair, just and equal society. It’s the only one of its kind in the UK, but follows in the footsteps of a long line of youth movements who have changed the world.

Why? For generations young people have been leading the struggle against injustice and inequality. Our voices are needed now more than ever. It’s no secret that mainstream politics doesn’t represent or reflect us, so it’s up to us to change things for ourselves.

We will not be inheriting this mess. We will be fixing it.
