‘Anti-racism in Practice: Working with a Love Ethic’ Conference
FEBRUARY-MARCH 2022 - In honor of the late bell hooks
To reflect the ongoing challenges we face in developing and sustaining compassionate anti-racist practice within structurally oppressive spaces, and on honour of our sister bell hooks, whose frame of ‘love’ shapes our practice, we have decided that our 2022 conference theme will be 'Anti-racism in Practice: Working with a Love Ethnic'.
A love ethic is a commitment to challenging hegemonic powers and building connected communities. A love ethic requires us to prioritize valuing human life and nurturing wellbeing in all aspects of our anti-racism commitments. A love ethic is a call to action.
In the midst of what can only be described as a hostile environment, we are witness to the necessity of love in action & the unavoidable vulnerability that comes with the practice of love.
“The practice of love offers no place of safety. We risk loss, hurt, pain. We risk being acted upon by forces outside our control.”
― bell hooks, All About Love: New Visions
This is a unique approach to conferencing, designed to bring together practitioners, activists, young people, creatives, scholars and leaders from all over the world to share, challenge, inspire and collaborate.
